The performative project addresses forms of self-defense that are being used by the citizens of Cuernavaca. Some groups of neighbours, in different locations in México, have decided to fight crime by themselves, because of complete lack of trust in the authorities and safety services.
The project is based on a series of actions that were held with the comunity of Lienzo Charro, a neighborhood in Cuernavaca where a series of banners with warnings containing a threat of lynching the criminals have been hanged on the streets. From the perspective of neighbours it was a practice, that increases self-management and common form of defending the group, even without help of the already corrupted authorities. However that kind of practice has also its dark side.
I have joined the meetings of neighborhood society, to find a purpose in this actions and expose this problematics. The installation consists of a banner made by the neighbors, that was stating: ̈Warning! Every person that will be catched by doing suspicious or criminal acts, no matter if it ́s a neighbour, is not gonna be judged, it ́s gonna be lynched ̈, along with a table set up to sharpen the knifes. Each of the visitors of the exhibition could use it based on their will.
