The design of the manual was inspired by the ways of constructions, that was already made by the current inhabitants of the five shelters or “shacks” as they name them and how they solved their essential problems, such as thermal insulation, air direction, the stability of structures. The manual was made in Spanish and translated into Arabic and Romanian and was pasted on the walls of the circuit F1 area.
The housing problem is perhaps one of the most challenging and complex problems, that migrants are facing when they arrive in Valencia. I accompanied Emir – the Moroccan immigrant in the process of adjusting his shack on the F1 track and listen to what he wanted to tell me about, what he described as “the worst 10 days of his life “. It led us to think about a possible way for the next inhabitants of the track to gain the knowledge that Emir and the past inhabitants of the circuit area had developed to survive in this space.
