Barranca Negra studies alternative processes of pedagogy that implements the art, not as a set of skills that needs to be taught, but rather give access to creativity as a tool of discovering inner self and surrounding in the manner of coexistence, integration, tolerance, and respect for the others.
This art project proposes a space of meeting, that produces collective knowledge in the community of Barranca de Xalcingo in the city of Cuernavaca, Mexico. The practice was based on critical, therapeutic, educational, effective, and conceptual tools that can be offered by art. Barranca Negra took the form of a free workshop that has been held twice a week in Xalcingo canyon. During this time, we were using art and pedagogy as an instrument of common will to create links between the inhabitants. We created a series of social rhythms that are registered in drawings, videos, photos, maps, and actions, and collective cartography that reflects on the canyon and its problems.
